On May 26, 2025, the last F-16 fighter jets from the Royal Netherlands Air Force bound for Ukraine officially left Dutch territory.
The aircraft took off from Volkel Air Base towards Belgium, where they will undergo final preparations before being transferred to the Ukrainian Air Force. The information was confirmed by the Dutch Ministry of Defence.

“This is a nostalgic moment, as the F-16s have played an important role in our Air Force for decades. Now, with the transition to the F-35, I can’t imagine a more fitting destination than Ukraine, where these aircraft can help contain Russian aggression,” said Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans.

According to the minister, the transfer was completed in record time, thanks to the joint efforts of technicians and pilots from both countries. “In times of peace, this type of operation would take years. Now we managed to do it in months. I am immensely grateful for the dedication of everyone involved,” he added.
Continued Support from the Netherlands
Even with the completion of the fighter jet deliveries, the Netherlands will remain engaged in Ukraine’s F-16 program, providing full support to keep the aircraft operational. This includes the supply of spare parts, ammunition, fuel, and technical training.
Ukrainian pilots are being trained in Romania at the European F-16 Training Center, which uses 18 Dutch F-16s for instruction. There are also plans to expand the center with a program focused on ground crew training.
Delivery Timeline

In July 2024, the Netherlands officially announced the donation of 24 F-16 fighter jets and seven spare engines to Ukraine. The first batch was sent in October of that year, along with parts and maintenance equipment valued at 80 million euros.
The second delivery took place in February 2025, coinciding with the arrival of the first French Mirage 2000-5Fs. The third batch was announced in April, alongside new investments in air defense, including HAWK and Patriot systems.
The fourth and final batch was confirmed on May 25 by Minister Brekelmans during an interview with the program “WNL op Zondag” and was officially dispatched the following day.
